Beauty of the NW

Mike Wise

Painting The Outdoors

Mike Wise is a painter best known for his rich landscapes, sculptural use of oils and the lush color and texture that give his paintings unique depth and a distinct three-dimensional feel.

He grew up an outdoor enthusiast, surrounded by the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Throughout his life he has been inspired by the dramatic coastlines, deserts, mountain ranges, back roads and farmland of the American landscape.

Mike has studied under several prominent painters, has learned from many of his contemporaries, and is an avid student of the old masters.

He lives on Whidbey Island where he works and teaches in an old barn on the family property that he lovingly converted to a modern art studio.

Mike enjoys painting and teaching workshops in studio and en plein air.  He is a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America (OPA) and the American Impressionist Society (AIS).

Mike Wise will be selecting prize winners for the Beauty of the Northwest Show and will attend the award ceremony at the Artists’ Reception on Saturday, October 13th from 1-4 p.m.

“Mike is an undeniably brilliant impressionist. His dynamic brushwork, fresh and unfettered application of paint combined with an uncanny ability to create a sense of realism, make his paintings simply exquisite.” – Denise Cole, Cole Gallery, as quoted in “American Art Collector Magazine” June 2017
