Awards Juror: Tracy Kay Felix
Tracy Felix is a well-known artist and art show juror throughout the region. Felix is trained in a traditional manner through all the private art lessons and academic art classes she could find, including studying under Irving Shapiro and earning a degree in Graphic Design & Advertising from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. In the Pacific Northwest, Felix opened Fraker/Scott Gallery, in Seattle’s Pioneer Square, co-owns an art store called ARTspot in Edmonds, and co-founded the educational non-profit Art Start Northwest housed in the Graphite Arts building in Edmonds WA.
Felix has had what she calls an “Art Life” because that is the constant that weaves through everything. She has chosen to not limit myself to one medium, as each provides specific effects that give her work interesting and unique qualities. She works in series, and keeps working with a concept until it is explored fully. There is always another inspiration on the horizon, and choosing what to explore is an important part of the process.

To me, art should have a strong sense of purpose. Paintings need to be about something. I consider my work to be abstract expressionist. My paintings are built in layers of color, texture, images and mixed media when it supports my concept. I feel strongly that creating a feeling of depth is important – both visual and of meaning. My art can be viewed literally or symbolic of larger ideas. Experimentation keeps me interested and my work moving forward.
