Sam Spencer has been photographing his entire life, but has made it his main focus since retirement in 2003. His work has evolved from travel photography to composite photography where he designs every image. In his composite photographs, the backgrounds are usually industrial in nature. An interesting sky, reflecting the mood of the viewer, is inserted. And finally a subject is composited in who hopefully ties the two halves together. What results is a unique image based on the contrast between the hard reality of life (the industrial) with the spiritual life (represented by the sky). The model shows us the way. Implicit in every image is an implied narrative in the tradition of Jerry Uelsmann.
